GRANTS PASS — Larson Kindreich took the onus of keeping Sheldon’s potent offense at bay to help bring North Medford its third American Legion A baseball state title in four years in Sunday’s championship game. The Maverick pitcher did not disappoint by delivering a two-hitter as North Medford captured the state title with a 4-1 victory over Sheldon at Grants Pass Sports Park. “I’m really proud of our kids,” said Mavericks coach Brett Wolfe, who nabbed his fourth title as skipper of the summer squad. “This tournament is a five-day grind and they battled and competed every single day. Their two goals this season were to become better baseball players and better people, and they did those. You have to learn how to deal with adversity and they did that very well as well as learning to sacrifice and be selfless.”
The Mavericks’ next destination is in Logan, Utah, where they will compete for a regional title, Aug. 7-11.
